The flower cake is not edible and its candles are decorative. Confetti Burst lists Asiatic lilies: do not send it to a home with cats.

Choose birthday flowers with balloons when the recipient enjoys a visible celebration and has room for them. Choose a flower cake for a decorative birthday-table display, or flowers in a mug when the keepsake is something they will want to use. Skip the extra if it adds clutter, an allergy concern or a receiving problem. Flowers and a thoughtful card are already a complete gift.
One distinction matters before you order: Bloom Lane’s Make a Wish Cake is made of flowers, is not edible, and has decorative candles. It is not a food cake delivered alongside a bouquet. If you want dessert for the celebration, arrange that separately.

Cake and mug prices include delivery and required service/handling. Applicable tax is extra. Balloons and video are optional additions, not mandatory charges; review the final selected total at checkout. The no-hidden-fees guide explains what is included.
The cake and mug are arrangement choices, not accessories attached to every bouquet. Balloons can be added at checkout to any order. No numbered balloons, licensed characters or exact balloon artwork are promised.
When a birthday flower cake makes sense
Make a Wish Cake uses white cushion mums, a ring of red carnations, orange spray roses, a yellow rose and purple statice. Its decorative yellow candles give the display a birthday-cake look without making it dessert. Seasonal stems may vary.
Choose it for a friend who loves playful table decorations, or a family member who would enjoy a birthday arrangement beside a separately planned meal. If you are sending it to an office, make sure the recipient will welcome that attention and that someone can receive it.
Call it “a flower cake,” not “cake for everyone to share,” which could sound like food. The candles are decorative, not an invitation to light them. Treat the arrangement as a floral display.
A suitable card might read:
Happy birthday, Jo! A flower cake for your table and a big wish for a wonderful year. Looking forward to celebrating over dinner.
Classic is the size shown in the product photo. Signature is listed as a larger cake with more flowers in the same colors; there is no Grand option. If its footprint matters for a crowded table, ask before ordering rather than estimating dimensions from the image.
When flowers in a mug are the better choice
Smiley Mug combines cream and yellow roses, yellow daisy mums, green carnations and green button mums in a yellow smiley-face ceramic mug the recipient can keep and use. Classic is $120; Signature is $150, with more flowers in the same mug and colors. There is no Grand option.
The useful question is not whether a mug lasts longer than flowers. It is whether this person wants this mug. A sibling who collects cheerful mugs may love it. A friend who has just cleared out a crowded kitchen might prefer a vase arrangement without another object to keep.
You could connect it to a familiar routine:
Happy birthday, Dad! Something cheerful for the table where we have our Sunday calls. Can’t wait to hear about your birthday plans.
Let the recipient decide what happens to the keepsake; do not require daily use or a photograph. Neither a mug nor a larger size makes the gift more thoughtful by itself.
When balloons add something useful
A single Happy Birthday foil balloon is a smaller addition than a five-balloon latex bunch. Choose by the recipient’s preferences and receiving space, not because more balloons automatically mean a bigger celebration.
For example, a friend celebrating at home who has specifically said they love balloons may welcome the bunch. A coworker who will carry the gift onto a bus may prefer no balloons. Confirm workplace acceptance before ordering; our office receiving guide separates the address from the actual handoff.
Do not plan a 50th birthday display around an assumed “50” balloon or a child’s favorite character. Those designs are not guaranteed. If the age connection matters, put it in your card; the milestone birthday guide offers other ways to mark the occasion.
Check latex allergies and household safety
The five-balloon bunch is latex. The American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology lists balloons among products that can contain latex. If latex allergy is relevant to the recipient or household, skip the latex bunch. Before choosing the foil option, ask about its materials and accessories; “foil” does not certify the entire balloon, ribbon or attachment latex-free. If you cannot confirm what matters, skip balloons.
The CPSC’s balloon rule addresses the choking or suffocation hazard that uninflated balloons and broken pieces pose to children under eight. Keep uninflated balloons and fragments away from children, supervise balloon use and promptly dispose of broken pieces.
Adult supervision matters even at a party. Do not leave cleanup for children or assume balloons are harmless because they arrived inflated. When the household cannot manage these precautions, flowers without balloons are the simpler choice.
When your voice is the best extra
The $12 personal video message lets you record up to 30 seconds for a scannable card. It can suit a birthday from far away, especially if the recipient would enjoy seeing you rather than receiving another physical object.
Try one greeting, one real detail and one wish: “Happy birthday, Sam. I keep thinking about our beach walk last summer. Hope this year brings another one together.”
Keep a written birthday message too, so the gift is understandable without scanning. The card message field holds 220 characters, with a separate 60-character signature field. Our birthday card guide has short examples you can adapt.
Choose the flowers first, then check the delivery plan
If no extra fits, consider Confetti Burst for someone who loves bright mixed color, or use the birthday flower selection guide to choose another direction. Let preference, not accessory count, guide you.
For today, same-day ordering closes at noon in the recipient’s local time, subject to ZIP and date availability. The window is confirmed at checkout; extras do not create a timed-arrival guarantee. For a party venue, confirm a receiving contact and read the event planning guide before treating the flowers as part of a table setup.
Questions about birthday flowers with extras
Is the birthday flower cake edible?
No. Make a Wish Cake is a floral arrangement with decorative candles, not food. Plan an edible birthday cake separately, and do not assume the decorative candles are suitable to light.
Can I add balloons to a birthday bouquet?
Yes, balloons are optional checkout additions: one Happy Birthday foil balloon is +$8, or a five-balloon latex bunch is +$22. Specific numbers, characters and artwork are not guaranteed.
Is the foil balloon latex-free?
Do not assume that. Skip the latex bunch when an allergy matters and confirm the materials of the foil balloon and its accessories before choosing it. Skip balloons if the relevant materials cannot be confirmed.
Are extras required for a birthday gift?
No. Choose flowers the recipient likes and a personal card. A mug, balloon or video message is worthwhile only when it improves their experience of the gift.
