Sympathy Store Order Problems: What to Do Next

Your Sympathy Store order arrived late, smaller than pictured or not at all? Contact the store first, document it, ask for a specific fix, and keep a written record.

If a Sympathy Store order arrived late, smaller than the photo, or not at all, contact the store you ordered from first. Do it quickly, and have your order number, the delivery details and photos ready. Keep every message in writing. If the store does not fix the problem, you can ask your card issuer about a dispute.

Bloom Lane is a separate, independent florist and is not affiliated with The Sympathy Store, funeralOne or HelloFlowers. Bloom Lane cannot look up, change or refund Sympathy Store orders, so please contact the store you ordered from.

Need flowers for the family while you sort it out? You can shop Bloom Lane sympathy flowers for the service or the family’s home. Check the delivery date at checkout, and delivery is included in every price, with only tax extra.

Start with the store that took your order

The Sympathy Store is run by funeralOne, which says it handles the store’s customer service. Its guided tour says it provides “24/7 support to your Sympathy Store visitors.” Use the contact details on your order confirmation email, since those are the details tied to your order.

The same page describes a “Comfort Guarantee” in which an unhappy shopper “may return it for a prompt exchange or refund,” and says funeralOne “handles all returns and exchanges.” Ask for that process by name, and ask what it requires from you.

Write down the date and time of each call, the name of the person you spoke with, and any reference number they give you. Follow up by email if a call does not settle the matter.

Gather your evidence

Collect the information before you write:

  • Your order number, the date you ordered and the delivery date shown
  • The product name and the photo you were shown when you ordered
  • Photos of the flowers as delivered, with the card and the container visible
  • The service date, time and location, and the funeral home’s name
  • Any message from the store about delivery, substitutions or the florist

If you were not at the service, ask the funeral home or a family member to take the photos. Keep the request short and kind. The family may be grieving, so ask only for what you need, and do not ask them to join a complaint.

Ask for a specific fix

“I want this fixed” is hard to act on. Name the remedy you want. Common requests include:

  • Redelivery of a corrected arrangement, if it is still useful for the family
  • A partial refund that matches what you received, if it was smaller or different than the photo
  • A refund of fees, such as a service fee, if the order was late or not delivered
  • A written confirmation of the refund or exchange, with the amount and the expected timing

Be specific about what the photo showed and what arrived. Sellers can only respond to a clear comparison.

Common problems and what to ask

Smaller than pictured. Compare your photos with the product page you saw. Ask the store to explain how the delivered size compares to the displayed size and to offer a remedy.

Substitutions. Ask which flowers or container were replaced, and whether the store agreed to the substitution in advance. funeralOne’s public pages we reviewed do not describe how substitutions are handled, so the store’s own policy is the one to request in writing.

Late or missing delivery. Ask for the delivery record, the florist’s name if the store shares it, and the time the arrangement was delivered. A service that has already passed may need a different remedy, such as a refund.

Wrong card message or name. Send the correct wording in writing and ask the store to confirm the fix. Keep a copy of your original order.

Delivered after the service. Ask the store to explain the delivery window it promised and to confirm a remedy in writing.

One public complaint on ComplaintsBoard describes a similar set of issues. That customer said an arrangement was smaller than pictured, that the florist added an unwanted flower, and that the company refunded the service fee but would not name the local florist that filled the order. That is one customer’s account, and it does not show what happens with every order. It is useful only as a reminder to ask the store to identify who made and delivered your arrangement.

Dispute the charge only after you ask the store

If the store does not respond or will not offer a fair remedy, you can ask your credit card issuer to review the charge. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau advises that you should call the card company right away, and that to protect your rights you must also send a written billing error notice. It says that notice must be sent “within 60 calendar days after the charge appeared on your statement.”

The CFPB also notes that a different dispute process can apply when goods or services turn out to be defective. So ask the card company which process applies to your case. Tell the store in writing that you will contact your card issuer if it does not resolve the problem. Sending that notice gives the store a fair chance to fix things first.

Dispute decisions are made by your card issuer, not by Bloom Lane or the store, and the outcome is not guaranteed.

Avoiding the problem next time

Before you order, confirm who will fill the order, what the photo shows, and what is included in the total. Our guide on whether The Sympathy Store is legit lists the details to check. Our comparison with ordering from a florist explains the differences in how orders are placed and confirmed.

If you reached the store from a funeral home’s website, read our guide to what happens when you click Send Flowers on an obituary page. It explains the path your order takes.

If the service has already passed

If the service has passed and the store cannot fix the order, the family can still receive a thoughtful gift at home. A later gift can still be welcome, but ask the family first. Our guide to sending sympathy flowers after the funeral covers timing and wording.

Questions about Sympathy Store order problems

Who should I contact first about a Sympathy Store order?

Contact the store you ordered from, using the details in your order confirmation. funeralOne says it handles the store’s customer service. Bloom Lane cannot look up or change those orders.

What if the flowers were smaller than the picture?

Send your photos, the product page you saw and your order number to the store. Ask for a specific remedy in writing, such as a partial refund or a corrected arrangement.

How long do I have to dispute a card charge?

The CFPB says to send a written billing error notice within 60 calendar days after the charge appeared on your statement. Check your card issuer’s rules as well, because a different process can apply to goods or services that were defective.

Will the store refund me?

That depends on the store’s policy and its review of your order. funeralOne describes a “Comfort Guarantee” that lets shoppers request a “prompt exchange or refund,” but it does not promise a particular outcome for every order.

Can I ask the funeral home to help?

Yes, if the funeral home was involved in the service. The funeral home can confirm the delivery time and the condition of the arrangement it received, and it may be able to share photos. It cannot change a Sympathy Store order for you, so keep your requests with the store.
